1. Go to the Control Panel if you are using Windows XP. You can go to the main menu by pressing the button at the lower left end of the screen, then choose System Control.
- Click on "Date, Time, Language and Region".
- Click on "Regional and Language Options".
- Select the "Languages" tab at the top.
- Click on "Details" at the bottom.
- Click on "Add" and select the desired language.
- Go back to the Languages tab and select the option to switch between languages by pressing the Alt + Shift key and the Shift key at the same time. So you can switch from the new to your usual keyboard whenever you want.
2. Go to the system control if you want to change the keyboard settings under Windows 8 or 10. You can open the menu by pressing the Windows key, and then press R.
- Change to "Small icons". This saves you a few clicks and go directly to the language menu.
- Click the icon labeled "Language".
- Select "Options".
- Click "Add input method". This allows you to select the desired keystone setting.
3. Open the "System Settings" if you want to change the keyboard configurations on a Mac. You can access the system settings via the launchpad or the "Programs" folder.
- Click on "International".
- Select the "Input menu" tab.
- Scroll down and select the desired language.
- See which keyboard shortcuts are required to switch between languages, or choose "Show input menu in the menu bar" to select the required keyboard by mouse click.
Tips
- There are keyboards where accented letters are already part of the keys. This could be a useful investment if you have to put accents on the letters regularly.
- Some software programs can make certain keys accentuated, or provide a virtual keyboard that you can simply click and select the desired character.
- On the iPhone or iPad, you just hold down the letter that you want to accent, and there should be a series of accents above the letter from which you can select.
