Hidden files are usually files that are accessed only irregularly. They are generated by every new application, and on most computers there are hundreds of hidden files. If you can not find a file or a folder, use the instructions below and follow your operating system to view the hidden files.

Method. 1 operating system

2. Select "System Control" from the pop-up menu.

3. Search for a symbol named "Folder Options". Click on it.

4. Switch to the "View" tab.

5. Scroll down and check the "Show hidden files, folders and drives" check box. Now you should see hidden folders and files.

  • Hidden files are displayed slightly transparent, indicating that they are usually not visible.

Method. 2 Mac operating system

1. Click "Go To" in the top toolbar.

2. Open the "Utilities" and select the "Terminal". A new window appears, in which you can enter direct commands to your operating system.

3. Paste the following command into the terminal window:
"defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles TRUE" Press Enter to save the changes and view the hidden files.

4. Paste the following command into the next line: "killall Finder"
Press Enter.

5. The terminal window is closed and reopened.

6. Search for faded file symbols. These files were not visible before.

  • You can hide the files from the terminal again. To do this, type the following command line:
  • "defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles FALSE"
  • Then type " killall Finder" and confirm by entering a command with the Enter key.

Tips

  • When you are done, you should hide the files again. Otherwise it might be harder for you to find certain files on your computer.
  • You can hide any file in Mac OS by typing a dot in front of the filenames. For example, if the file name is "Tasks", you can change it to "Tasks" to hide this file.
